Twitter Shots Fired Between Jey Uso and Gunther After 2025 Royal Rumble

The most brilliant idea Vince McMahon ever had was pulling together several regional wrestling organizations to create the expansive WWF (now WWE) national brand. Since this genius move, the league has had lots of ups and downs but remains one of the biggest sporting events in the world. In fact, it’s nearly at NFL levels of popularity thanks to personalities like Gunther and Jey Uso, who recently had an interesting spat on Twitter after Royal Rumble 2025.
The Challenge to the Champ
Jey Uso’s star has continued to rise in big ways in the last few years but reached a new peak in Royal Rumble 2025 when he shocked the world by eliminating John Cena. That wasn’t supposed to happen, many fans thought, as Cena is royalty. Could it be a passing of the guards? Many think so, but current WWE Heavyweight Champion Gunther isn’t convinced.
In an interview after the event, Uso claimed that he felt the company (WWE) has faith in him now, and that beating Cena was just the first step in his superstardom. He claimed that he was screaming “Gunther, Gunther, Gunther” after winning the Rumble and believed he could beat him. History shows otherwise, as Uso has lost all three matches with the German powerhouse.
In fact, Gunther commented on the challenge in his trademark stoic way on Twitter by simply posting “I wouldn’t…” while linking to the video of Uso claiming he was ready to challenge Gunther again. Short, sweet, but totally perfect! Is there any chance that Uso could really take on such a beast as Gunther? Anything can happen in the wild world of the WWE!
The German Wunderkind and the Samoan Powerhouse
Gunther is a man of few words for a reason: he lets his actions do the talking. After all, this is a man who walks into the ring to classical music, the almost overpowering “Symphony No. 9” by Dvorak. Unlike other wrestlers who come out to verbose hip-hop or snarling heavy metal, Gunther lets his wordless music intimidate any opponent who dares step in the ring.
After all, how many wrestlers have titles in Germany, England, and Ireland, alongside the US? Who else can claim to have ended a historic 685-day championship run? What other wrestler came into came into SmackDown in such a dominant way in his very first bout and became Intercontinental Champion just three months into his American career? Gunther is a force of nature.
By contrast, the wise-cracking “Yeet” King Jey Uso might seem almost comical. But don’t underrate this dynamo! He and his brother Jimmy eventually became Samon wrestling royalty as tag team champs. In fact, they held their championship for an incredibly long time before losing in Wrestlemania 39. Before Royal Rumble 2025, their success mostly came together.
Solo Success and A Future as Heavyweight Champ?
Jey and Jimmy’s dual success changed at Wrestlemania XL when Jey beat his brother in an emotional fight and later defeated Bron Breakker to earn his first Intercontinental Champion belt. So yes, the Samoan Mouth is a colorful character, a verbose blabbermouth compared to Gunther’s stoic stoneiness. However, he has the pedigree to dethrone a champ.
